In my last blog post I said that there is nothing that ever surprises me. Well I now stand corrected....sit corrected but you get my point. A Massachusetts school has rescinded its admission offer to a young boy because his parents are lesbians. Now it's one thing to discriminate against the LGBT community, but when it affects young children it's totally uncalled for.
The parents in this particular case had already gone through orientation and open house with the school. They did not try to hide the fact about their sexuality from the school. The school knew about it the whole time and did not say anything until they had a conference call with the parents rescinding the offer. The school claims to have come to the decision because the parents' sexuality does not agree with the Roman Catholic teachings.
Children should not be denied an education just based solely on their parents' sexuality. It is not the children's fault so why should they be punished for something that is out of their control. Discrimination against the LGBT community is something we are used to. Discrimination against children is something that should not happen, they are innocent. The children deserve to have the same opportunities provided to them as those of children whose parents are heterosexuals.
Some day I hope to see religions come to realize that their higher power does not want them to hate others. God, no matter what religion you are, does not teach hate. There may be a few out there, like Satanism, but for the most part it is true. God wants us to love, not hate. More people would believe and participate in religion if people would realize this. I hope to see more acceptance in my lifetime. I know it's a slow treacherous road, but I am willing to walk that road.....are you?
